The National Health Security Office (NHSO) board has agreed to the 2019 procurement plan for rabies vaccine, as recent outbreaks have consumed about 4.5 million doses.
Minister of Public Health Dr. Piyasakol Sakolsatayadorn, in his capacity as the Chairman of the NHSO, made the announcement. He pointed out that the number of doses used this year has reached 4.5 million, significantly higher than last year’s 3 million.
He said the money used to purchase the vaccine was originally from the procurement budget for outpatients. Meanwhile, the Minister has assigned the subcommittee on medicines, pharmaceutical devices and equipment procurement to address the matter. Dr. Piyasakol said that reimbursement for rabies vaccine costs will be granted to small medical units that have already bought the vaccine this fiscal year, in order to help them alleviate their financial burden.
The NHSO also agreed to the 2019 rabies vaccine procurement plan through the resources of the office, the Disease Control Department and the Office of the Permanent Secretary of the Public Health Ministry.
