The National Legislative Assembly is planning to work on the promotion of biomass wood pellets for use by farmers.
Gen. Akkanit Muensawat, chairman of the NLA’s working committee on integrative studies to promote the production, the development and use of biomass wood pellets, on Tuesday chaired a meeting on a draft report on the studies, which suggested that there are 8.82 million rai of land in Thailand deemed suitable for fast-growing trees optimal for the production of biomass wood pellets.
The committee noted that Thailand’s demand for this type of energy source is substantial but there remain problems about the production, development and use of the pellets in an efficient fashion.
Therefore, it has suggested promotional efforts to encourage the growing of the right trees, including eucalyptus, by farmers, the introduction of measures to promote more widespread production of biomass wood pellets, and the boosting of domestic demand.
