Thailand's Office of Traffic Policy and Planning (OTP) is urgently drafting a master plan to improve public transport connections between regions and to neighboring nations.
OTP Director Chaiwat Thongkamkun revealed, after the first ever seminar and opinion hearing session for the public transport master plan in Udon Thani, that the Ministry of Transport has tasked the OTP with conducting the studies needed for the plan and with drafting pilot projects that would upgrade public transportation systems. The projects are to address traffic problems being reported by citizens, upgrade the efficiency of transport and to improve connectivity. The effort is in line with the 12th National Economic and Social Development Plan as well as government policy.
The seminar in Udon Thani heard views from civil servants, private sector representatives and community leaders as well as those who might be impacted by the projects. All views are to be incorporated into the master plan for Udon Thani, seeking the highest benefit for its residents.
