The Prime Minister, Gen. Prayut Chan-o-cha, held a discussion with the Secretary-General of the United Nations World Tourism Organization (UNWTO), Zurab Pololikashvili, on promoting authentic Thai food to the world. The meeting took place on Thursday (May 31st) at Government House, Bangkok.
The UNWTO Secretary-General is scheduled to attend the 4th UNWTO World Forum on Gastronomy Tourism in Bangkok from May 30th to June 1st, 2018.
Gen. Prayut said Thailand is delighted to be the first Asian country to host this forum. He said Thailand gives a high priority on the tourism industry, especially on gastronomy tourism, thanks to the global popularity of Thai food.
The Prime Minister said Mr. Pololikashvili would have an opportunity to sample the authentic tastes of Thai food during his visit.
During this talk, both sides have expressed their appreciation for the cooperation between Thailand and the UNWTO, which has been more than 30 years ago, while Thailand will continue to further enhance its tourism industry according to the UNWTO's suggestions.
Thailand also aims to promote tourism activities by connecting with other ASEAN countries and providing multiple destinations in one visit for tourists.
The UNWTO Secretary-General said the organization is willing to work with the government to push tourism as a key economic driving factor. He also praised the Thai tourism industry which has been developed under the Prime Minister's leadership.
