PM Prayut welcomes UNWTO chief, encourages authentic Thai food promotion

The Prime Minister, Gen. Prayut Chan-o-cha, held a discussion with the Secretary-General of the United Nations World Tourism Organization (UNWTO), Zurab Pololikashvili, on promoting authentic Thai food to the world. The meeting took place on Thursday (May 31st) at Government House, Bangkok.

The UNWTO Secretary-General is scheduled to attend the 4th UNWTO World Forum on Gastronomy Tourism in Bangkok from May 30th to June 1st, 2018.

Gen. Prayut said Thailand is delighted to be the first Asian country to host this forum. He said Thailand gives a high priority on the tourism industry, especially on gastronomy tourism, thanks to the global popularity of Thai food.

The Prime Minister said Mr. Pololikashvili would have an opportunity to sample the authentic tastes of Thai food during his visit.

During this talk, both sides have expressed their appreciation for the cooperation between Thailand and the UNWTO, which has been more than 30 years ago, while Thailand will continue to further enhance its tourism industry according to the UNWTO's suggestions.

Thailand also aims to promote tourism activities by connecting with other ASEAN countries and providing multiple destinations in one visit for tourists.

The UNWTO Secretary-General said the organization is willing to work with the government to push tourism as a key economic driving factor. He also praised the Thai tourism industry which has been developed under the Prime Minister's leadership.

Development of payment system in PTT gas stations

In the future, those who use the services of PTT petrol stations will be able to make convenient, fast, and safe payments through the PTT e-Wallet system. PTT and Kasikornbank recently signed an agreement to develop the PTT e-Wallet system. The system is expected to be launched in the last quarter of this year in keeping with the national e-payment policy of the government, which encourages more use of financial technology. Ms. Chiraporn Khaosawat, Deputy Managing Director of the Oil Business Unit of PTT Co., Ltd., recently dealt with the introduction of the PTT e-Wallet system as an alternative for customers in paying for goods and services at gas stations, that also offer convenience stores, using an application and cards. Prayers in tribute to Royal Household taking place this Friday

A prayer service is to be staged this Friday August 17, 2018 at Dusit Palace in tribute to His Majesty the late King Bhumibol Adulyadej, Her Majesty Queen Sirikit of the Ninth Reign on the occasion of her birthday anniversary, and His Majesty King Maha Vajiralongkorn. His Majesty the King has graciously entrusted the Supreme Patriarch with leading 195 monks in performing the prayer while calling for the important Buddhist relic Phra Buddha Norasih to be the central Buddhist image. The prayer ceremony is a continuation of the “Dhamma Rachinee” practice initiated by Her Majesty Queen Sirikit of the Ninth Reign.
