The Prime Minister has requested time for his team to explain the over 3 trillion baht 2019 expenditure budget to the National Legislative Assembly (NLA) today.
Over 20 legislators are expected to spend around eight minutes each in debating the 2019 government expenditure budget today with Prime Minister Gen Prayut Chan-ocha asking for two hours to outline the plan.
The 2018 budget was mandated by the Financial Discipline Act of 2018, which decrees that no less than 20 percent of the amount and no less than the national deficit be put into public investments. The PM plans to explain how such regulations are being followed this year.
Meanwhile, a piece of legislation on the national strategy is being finalized by the government for presentation to the NLA by June 8, when a 30 day time frame for its revision ends. The legislature will have until July 7 to complete its review of the draft act. It has already established a committee in preparation for the process with the focus to be on ensuring the law guarantees continuity of the national strategy from administration to administration.
