Police to patrol entertainment venues during World Cup 2018

Police are being mobilized to prevent gambling during FIFA World Cup 2018, which begins today.

The Command Center for Combating Football Gambling of the Metropolitan Police Bureau, disclosed that since May 1st, a total of 722 people have been arrested for illegal football betting, along with 763 others who placed bets online.

In addition, 15 internet celebrities will also be summoned by police on June 20th, after allegedly sharing messages on social media encouraging people to gamble.

The Metropolitan Police Bureau has also instructed its units across Bangkok to patrol restaurants and entertainment venues where the World Cup is being broadcast.

Anyone found involved in gambling will be prosecuted according to the Gambling Act and by the order of the National Council for Peace and Order. Food and beverage businesses that support any form of football gambling will be shut down for five years.

NLA’s vice president denies claims of legislative support for government

A vice president of the National Legislative Assembly has denied claims that the legislature has been trying to help members of the current government in the next election. Mr. Peerasak Porjit, the Second Vice President of the NLA, went with a number of members of the legislature on Monday to meet over 1,000 farmers, who represent growers from 67 provinces, to collect opinions for the drafting of the Rice Act. The NLA said that the new law is not intended to limit the rights of farmers and merchants but to ensure standard practices and a correct understanding among all. According to the draft law, rice buyers will have to register themselves and sellers will have to produce receipts while a system will be set up to collect information for a rice database. More Bueng Kan farmers producing durian

Rubber farmers in Beung Khong Long district, Beung Kan province, have been able to supplement their incomes by growing durians. The rubber farmers have now begun picking durians from the trees as they begin to ripen. One durian plantation owner, Chaiyo Sisaeng, said his durian trees produced more durians this year. They will be harvested and ready for sale in the middle of this month. Chaiyo said the reason he started producing durian was because the weather in Bueng Kan was similar to the weather in the southern province of Nakhon Si Thammarat where he had previously rented a plot of land to grow durian trees.
