Preparations have been made to receive Myanmar President Win Myint for his first ever official visit to Thailand since taking office in March of this year and to mark the 70th anniversary of the founding of the Thai Embassy in Myanmar.
President Win Myint is to travel to Thailand as a guest of the government and is scheduled to discuss a variety of matters with Prime Minister Gen Prayut Chan-ocha on June 14 before attending the 8th Ayeyawady-Chao Phraya-Mekong Economic Cooperation Strategy (ACMECS) Leaders’ Summit from June 15-16.
The president’s arrival will be his first official visit to Thailand and first attendance of a multilateral summit abroad since assuming his role. It is hoped the visit will strengthen ties between Thailand and Myanmar as this year is the 70th anniversary of the establishment of the Royal Thai Embassy in Myanmar.
