Thai GDP to grow 4% in Q2

The Fiscal Policy Office (FPO) of the Ministry of Finance expects the country’s GDP in the second quarter of 2018 to expand at the rate of 4%.

FPO advisor Warothai Kosolpisitkul said today the country’s GDP will grown no less than 4% between April and June, attributing the expected rise to the 10% export growth.

He added that the overall economy expanded in the month of April, which is an indicator of the recovery in private consumption and spending.

In addition, Thai exports expanded for 14 consecutive months in April to 12.3%, while the number of foreign tourists surged 9.4% to 3.09 million people.

Meanwhile, the public debt to GDP ratio was 41.2% in April which Warothai said was within the framework of financial sustainability.

Lastly, the April consumer confidence index stood at 67.8 which was the highest mark in the past 38 months or since March 2015.

A vice president of the National Legislative Assembly has denied claims that the legislature has been trying to help members of the current government in the next election. Thais attend events to celebrate Royal Birthday

Thais from all walks of life have attended events celebrating the 86th birthday anniversary of Her Majesty Queen Sirikit of the Ninth Reign. Residents of Wiang sub-district of the capital district of Phayao province gave alms to 87 monks at Wat Si Khom Kham, marking the auspicious occasion of Her Majesty’s birthday. In Uthai Thani province, residents gathered to give offerings to monks in the early hours of August 12th. Donning blue, the color of Her Majesty’s birthday, a number of residents also made merit in dedication to Her Majesty the Queen by releasing fish into the Sakae Krang river basin. Commerce Min sees bright outlook for Hom Mali exports

The Ministry of Commerce is confident that Hom Mali rice exports will continue to expand, especially in the United States, which is Thailand’s largest export market for Hom Mali rice. Deputy Commerce Minister Chutima Bunyapraphasara said last week that during the first six months of 2018, Thailand exported more than 220,000 tons of Hom Mali rice, worth 250 million US dollars, to the United States. The volume represents an increase of 2.8 percent over the same period of last year. Chutima led a trade mission, comprising members of the public and private sectors to the United States, from 22nd to 26th July 2018. The visit was undertaken to publicize Thai rice and boost trade cooperation with US rice importers. With information collected about the Thai-US rice market, the trade mission soon foresaw more opportunities for Thai rice exports to the United States.
