Thailand welcomes President of Myanmar

The President of Myanmar has arrived in Thailand to attend the Ayeyawady-Chao Phraya-Mekong Economic Cooperation Strategy (ACMECS) meeting and to mark 70 years of diplomatic relations with Thailand.

President U Win Myint arrived in Thailand with his wife and entourage for the first time since assuming office in March this year. He was greeted by Privy Councilor Chirayu Isarangkun Na Ayuthaya and Deputy Prime Minister for economic affairs Dr. Somkid Jatusripitak, in a ceremony of honor on his arrival in Bangkok.

He then visited the Grand Palace and the Temple of the Emerald Buddha before traveling to Government House to meet with Prime Minister Gen Prayut Chan-o-cha to discuss bilateral relations and attend a state dinner in his honor.

The Myanmar President is also scheduled to attend the eighth ACMECS Summit on enhancing connectivity in the Mekong Greater Subregion.

ACMECS leaders to implement master plan for 5-year development cooperation

 The leaders of countries participating in the Ayeyawady – Chao Phraya – Mekong Economic Cooperation Strategy (ACMECS) Summit, vowed to implement a five-year master plan for regional development, before the official opening ceremony this morning. The five member countries are Cambodia, Laos, Myanmar, Vietnam and Thailand, which also constitute the CLMVT cluster. Prime Minister Gen. Prayut Chan-o-cha presided over the opening ceremony. The summit is centered on approaches to carrying out the ACMECS Master Plan 2019-2023. DPM Prawit:Govt yet to set dates for political party meetings

The Deputy Prime Minister for Security Affairs has insisted it is not yet time for the government to set clear dates for meetings with political parties or to lift the ban on political activities.
