An anti-smoking campaign is underway in Uttaradit province to encourage community health leaders to use social media to publicize the dangers of cigarettes.
According to Ms Waranya Chan-udom, President of the Uttaradit Mass Communication Club, a large number of Uttaradit residents are currently suffering from heart disease and strokes as a consequence of smoking. She indicated that quitting the habit while maintaining a good mood, consuming a healthy diet and exercising regularly could help lower the risk of heart disease by half.
In this regard, she said her agency has joined hands with the Action on Smoking and Health Foundation (ASH Thailand) as well as health and public relations volunteers to carry out a project to discourage smoking and call for strict enforcement of the Tobacco Control Act 2017.
Under the project, an activity is being organized for community health leaders to create anti-smoking video clips for distribution to various social media platforms, such as Line, Facebook and Instagram.
