The Director-General of the Trade Policy and Strategy Office, Pimchanok Vonkorpon, said exports of agricultural and agro-industrial products in Thailand rose four percent in the first half of this year.
Ms. Pimchanok said on Monday (Aug 6th) that the expansion was driven by strong exports of potential products, such as rice, fresh, processed and frozen poultry meat, canned, processed and frozen fruits, and canned, processed and frozen seafood.
She said the export of rice grew 17 percent in the first half of 2018. Thailand is expected to export 11 million tons of rice in the second half of the year in accordance with the target, as major importers, such as Indonesia and the Philippines, want to buy more Thai rice.
She cautioned Thai exporters to brace themselves for the impact of the trade war between the United States and China. She said they should consider diversifying their markets to reduce risks.
