Commerce Minister Sontirat Sontijirawong has held a meeting with representatives of the Federation of Thai Industries (FTI) and related agencies to look for ways to shield Thailand from the impact of a global trade war.
The Commerce Minister and FTI representatives agreed to set up two sub-committees to solve problems in the trade and industrial sectors.
Sonthirat instructed the FTI to seek cooperation from the Thai Chamber of Commerce and the Thai Bankers Association in order to avoid overlapping responsibilities.
Meanwhile, FTI President Suphan Mongkolsuthee said today the private sector will urge the government to proceed with the Free Trade Agreement (FTA) and the Comprehensive and Progressive Agreement for Trans-Pacific Partnership (CPTPP) to ensure that Thai manufacturers remain competitive amid the increasing competition worldwide.
