The government is preparing assistance for farmers, who have been affected by floods.
Director-General of the Department of Agricultural Extension, Somchai Chanarongkul said today that an official survey found 497,590 rai of farmland has been inundated so far.
He said that most of the submerged farmland is paddy fields and 81,095 farmers have been confirmed as flood victims, who need state assistance.
Mr. Somchai said that the Department of Agricultural Extension is implementing a compensation program in accordance with the regulations of the Ministry of Finance, which allows for assistance to registered farmers, who will each get financial aid for up to 30 rai of farmland.
He added that eight provinces have already been declared disaster zones: Uttaradit, Nan, Sakon Nakhon, Nakhon Phanom, Kalasin, Roi Et, Yasothon and Kanchanaburi.
