The final day of the Thailand Research Expo 2018 saw a parade of researchers, academics and members of the public viewing the various research projects on display, especially a piece of technology designed to alert caretakers when those under their care fall out of bed.
The technology has been dubbed “Never Ever Fall” and is the work of Ph.D. students at King Mongkut's University of Technology, Thonburi. The innovation is a bed equipped with censors that instantly alert caretakers when patients are not detected. When patients are in bed a green signal is displayed while a yellow signal will appear if it seems the patient is about to fall out of bed. A red signal is set off if the patient is completely absent from the bed. The technology is expected to be available for practical use by the end of this year.
Another interesting invention was a three dimensional microscope developed by Suranaree University of Technology. The high speed infrared microscope is being developed for use in the detection of ophthalmological ailments.
Over 630 research projects were displayed at the expo alongside showcases and product sales.
