Flood gates have been closed in Nong Khai province after the water level of the Mekong started to decline. Meanwhile, more pumps have been installed to accelerate the flood water discharge rate.
All three flood gates at the Lam Huay Luang stream in Phon Phisai district were shut and seven more pumps were installed. All 14 pumps are now discharging three million cubic meter of water each day into the Mekong River.
In Tambon Chumphon, 20-30 rai of palm plantations in a low-lying area are flooded to a depth of 1.50 meters.
The water level of the Mekong River continued to decrease on Monday. The latest reading was 10.27 meters, a decrease of 54 centimeters and lower than the banks by 1.93 meters. The Nong Khai municipality has already opened flood gates in the city area but continues to monitor the situation.
