The Mekong River in Nong Khai province has receded slightly but its water level is still considered high, as the drainage of floodwaters from its tributaries has proven slow.
The river level measured at the Nong Khai hydrology center was 9.83 meters, a decrease of only 13 centimeters, putting it 2.37 meters below the top of the embankment.
Drainage from tributaries and creeks that feed into the Mekong has been slow due to the minimal difference in water levels. At Huai Mong creek, the water level is only five centimeters higher. In addition, large amounts of water hyacinth have impeded water flow, further exacerbating the situation.
Meanwhile in Ranong province, heavy rainfall in Bang Hin sub-district has flooded several households. A special women’s division of the 2nd Battalion, 25th Infantry Regiment has provided assistance to 30 residents by cleaning homes and assessing damage.
